    Is FC7 a memory hog?

When I had FC5, I could have a number of programs opened and still have 1.3 of my 2GB of memory free. Now, with just Firefox opened, it's showing I only have 195MB free.

Am I reading this wrong or is Fedora just eating away my free memory?

    Code:
    [tristan@localhost ~]$ free -m
total used free shared buffers cached
    Mem: 2026 1831 195 0 156 1290
    -/+ buffers/cache: 383 1642
    Swap: 1983 0 1983

If you look at the output you posted, you will note that most of the "used" memory is just cached (meaning that its actually available. You will also note that the system is not even touching the swap space. So, the memory usage seems normal and Fedora is not eating up your memory. To find out more about how memory is managed on Linux based operating systems, take a look here.
