    RedHat Dependencies


    I am trying to install emacs and I installed all the dependencies except for one. I says i need /usr/bin/perl, how do I take care of that dependency?

    I would use yum (yellow dog updater) as it is the default installer for RedHat Fedora and takes care of dependencies, or at least it should. Your yum.conf in /etc might be outdated or incomplete. The default yum.conf is straight from redhat. You can google "yum.conf" and get a bunch of sites that have a lot more than whats in the default yum.conf.

    However, if you're sure its just perl you're missing just goto www.rpmfind.net and grab the latest perl rpm.

    Or try this link if you are running FC1:

    http://www.rpmfind.net//linux/RPM/fe...3-16.i386.html

    And do a (as root) rpm -ihv perl.(whatever).rpm .

    But again if perl has dependencies, as it might it could be a headache. Thats why most people use yum because it will d/l all needed dependent packages for you.

    the perl package said it requires /usr/bin/perl
