    wireless device is not up


    hi,
    i have installed FC8, the wireless device is not getting up, ifconfig up shows device as up without inet addr and the wireless light on my laptop is not on tooo ... can anyone tell me how to turn the wireless device on, i use intel wireless device.

    Open the terminal and post the output of
    iwconfig
    lspci
    lsmod | grep ipw
    Post the output here

    Your card should use the ipw2200 driver, which may already be loading. It also needs firmware to be loaded, firmware is not installed automatically.

    I also found some instructions for setting this up in Fedora. It is a little old, so all of it may not apply to Fedora 8:

    Not to scare you from setting this up, but there may be a problem with setting this up in Fedora 8. Here are instructions to fix the problem:

    I would first set it up normally, and see if it works, before trying the "fix".
