    Ethernet configuration

    Hi,

    I am having a Dell Inspiron 1100 which a broadcom 440x Ethernet card. I have a dual boot with Windows XP and Redhat 9. While trying to configure the ethernet connection i used the tigon3 device driver for activating the broadcom ethernet card but i was not able to configure it. Please let me know any way to configure the ethernet connection..

    Thanks,
    Ram

    I'm assuming that the card get detected and you want to configure (assign IP etc.) to it.

    go to /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts directory and create (or edit) the file ifcfg-eth0 and put something like this (if you want static IP assigned):
    Code:
    DEVICE=eth0
    IPADDR=192.168.0.5
    BOOTPROTO=static
    NETMASK=255.255.255.0
    ONBOOT=yes
    GATEWAY=192.168.0.1
    update IP as per your requirement. If you want to get IP from DHCP, then you can put something like this in file:
    Code:
    DEVICE=eth0
    BOOTPROTO=dhcp
    ONBOOT=yes
    TYPE=Ethernet
    USERCTL=yes
    and then try to bring up the interface by running:
    Code:
    # ifup eth0
    and check status with:
    Code:
    # ifconfig eth0

    Try a newer distribution e.g. Fedora 8, Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 or CentOS 5 (which is a free RHEL rebuild). Red Hat 9 is a very old and outdated.
