    Destroying ext3 filesystems under files copy between it and NTFS filesystem


    NB. I'm understanded that NTFS filesystem device (a Linux' driver) for WRITTING information op. TO NTFS device is... gm-hm, an experimental
    operation and do it use as "uses it on own risk"!
    But my situation. who I has now, is as "180 degrees" turned off from de-facto uses computer' rules! The crashe has ext3 filesystem (!!!) on a stage process - files copying operation: writting a files to NTFS device from ext3 volume, and the __source__ ext3 filesystem was be destroing and Linux device was crashed!..

    Resume: the NTFS device hasn't destroing filesystem and ext3 filesystem device was destroing fully!..

    Environment.

    I has 3th ATA HDDs file store on my computer:

    1th HDD - 160 Gb WD as 4th partition: 1 .. 3 as NTFS, 4th - logical disk free for Linux;
    2th HDD - 40 Gb Hitachi, all drive space as Logical Volume under Fedora 8;
    3th HDD - 40 Gb Samsung(?) [marked as ata2 on Log, see below] as 4th partition device:
    -- 1th as NTFS under Win2k,
    -- 2ht as ext3 under CentOS 5.1,
    -- 3th as ext3 under CenrOS 4.5,
    -- 4th logical as ext3 under CentOS 4.3 Server.

    OS: currently - Fedora 8 of Linux kernel 2.6.23.14 (was last automatically updated about 2008.02.10).

    Date of crashe: at 2008.02.12 about 01:50 MSK

    It's my short desctiption for operations after and by crache process.
    (It's operation was my technical needs for migrate an information between two devices, has NTFS filesystems, under Linux machine.)

    (A). Stage of copying files from __OTHER__ NTFS HDD device to __MY__ HDD device has ext3 filesystem under Linux:

    1. Insert into computer, as 1th HDD replacement, other HDD (this device has 2th NTFS partition) and uses it as _source_ store on any files.

    2. Start Fedora 8 and logon as root because target filesystem, who has needed me free space position, has root privelege under other OS. (It's 3th HDD under CentOs 4/5 ext3 filesystems; I uses it because logical volume 2th HDD under my Fedora 8 hasn't free space needly for me. And 4th ATA slot on my compurer uses as CD-DVD store.)

    3. Copying a files as 1th stage of migrate information process: copying from NTFS volume to ext3 volume (concretly: as /var volume of CentOS, because has it about 11 Gb free space)

    Resume: done - OK !

    4. Shutdown computer to time about 0.5 hour for phisycal change HDDs devices.

    (B). Stage of copying files from __MY__ ext3 to __MY__ NTFS filesystem device (it is "1th HDD" on my environmental description, see below).

    The 2th stage my file migration - it's copying the files from the /var volume (remember: it's device under ext3 silesystem) to my 160 Gb NTFS device. But it operation of copying do not has 10% of summary filespaces... oh, bum-m-ms!!! - copying was terminates and SOURCEs filsystems was do unmonted automatically!

    And after it any automounted ext3 devices on 3th HDD (see envitonmental description please) was diagnoses about "do not devices for monting" for next probing me for re-mouting operation! And the NTFS device (such as 1th HDD) was be presents as monted and worked normally, because it was don't destroings...

    I'm has a shok! And I need to do reboot my computer now.

    I'm testing for it 40 Gb HDD, who has this crashe, and I have now this information about it:
    -- phisical - it's has not a problem of device,
    -- logical - destroying ALL filesystems:
    a) ext3 partitions and volumes was do marked as ext2 (!!!);
    b) marking parameter "using filespace" as 100% (and 0% freespace too) on ALL volumes without one;
    c) One my 2Gb ext3 volume after crashe was changes FS from ext3 to "unused space".

    How I can restoring my device and repairing filesystems if it possible?

    how to design linux ext3 file system driver

    hello all,

    myself amit i'm working on thinclient project, i've to write the driver ext3 file system for my linux based system but i'm not getting the structure & architecture for this file system , so please provide me some guideline that how to design linux ext3 file system driver
