How to know Hardware Type/name in Linux/Solaris

I have 1000 machines in diff-2 branches in diff-2 country. Now I want to know which machine is using which Server/Hardware. Is there any way to know that in SunOS/Redhat/CentOS (most of the Linux/Unix os) ?

    please suggest, thanks ??

If using Linux, one of the best tools to use is lshw. Unfortunately its not installed by default on most Linux distros, but its easy to compile from source if you can't find packages for your distro. Sample ouput from my laptop
