If using Linux, one of the best tools to use is lshw. Unfortunately its not installed by default on most Linux distros, but its easy to compile from source if you can't find packages for your distro. Sample ouput from my laptop
    Code:
    description: Computer
        product: ECO4011IW
        vendor: MAXDATA
        version: VT6363A
        serial: 000009
        width: 32 bits
        capabilities: smbios-2.4 dmi-2.4 smp-1.4 smp
    .......
