Thanks for the reply
When I run the sound card detection utility in Gnome, it finds my sound card, however when I choose to play test sound one of two things will happen.. Either I will hear nothing and get a request asking if I heard the sound, or the dialog box will hang and never ask if I heard the sound. I have made certain all volume controls are up and I have listened through headphones and through the pc speaker. I have also downloaded and installed the mp3 pluggins, even recompiled xmms with no results.
Thanks
