Assistance adding XP to the Grub Loader - Fedora 8

    Hello,

I was running Ubuntu for awhile but wanted to give Fedora 8 a whirl.

I installed Fedora 8 first because it seems to be easier this way.

I installed Fedora 8 on my first SATA drive and then XP on my second SATA drive.

Grub loads on my IDE drive.

Can't figure out what to put for the Windows XP HD.

This is what I have for my options at boot

    # kernel /vmlinuz-version ro root=/dev/VolGroup00/LogVol00
    # initrd /initrd-version.img
    #boot=/dev/sdc

    title Windows XP Professional
    rootnoverify (sdb1)
    chainloader +1
    I've tried hd0,1 etc.. sdb,0 sdb,1 sdb,2 and as you can see sdb1

    I will now try (sdb1,0)

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated

    Hi and Welcome !!

    Replace this
    title Windows XP Professional
    rootnoverify (sdb1)
    chainloader +1
    with this
    Code:
    title Windows XP Professional
    rootnoverify (hd1,0)
    map (hd0) (hd1)
    map (hd1) (hd0)
    chainloader +1
    Save file and reboot machine.

    Any other possible Ideas?

hd0 is my 80GB IDE drive - Grub Boot Loader
sda is my 250GB SATA drive with Linux installed
sdb is my 250GB SATA drive with Windows XP installed

Never used LVM but I think the entries showing "/dev/dm-1 doesn't contain a valid partition table (same for dm-2 and dm-3) would provide a clue. Expect someone else will be able to help with LVM.

Also, the (hd0),(hd1),etc is grub's reference to drives so grub would see your system with (hd0), (hd1), (hd2). Linux refers to them as sda, sdb, sdc, etc and numbers after refer to partitions in the drive: (hd0,0) and sda1 refer to the first partition on the first drive.

devils casper's recommendation almost always works, maybe the problems is due to the LVM, ??
