sendmail and sm-client very slow on boot

I currently have a redhat box named "maple." /etc/hosts looks like this:
    Code:
    127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost
    192.168.18.1 maple
When the box boots, it takes about 5 minutes to get past the services "sendmail" and "sm-client."

If I change the hosts file back to it's original setting, this does not occur.
    Code:
    127.0.0.1 maple localhost.localdomain localhost
Does anyone have an idea of how I can fix this issue?

Any takers? From what I've read on other posts, my first solution should be sufficient as it holds "localhost.localdomain" and "localhost" in that loopback address line.
