    deleting choices in grub

I updated my kernel and now when ever i boot up, grub loads up and displays 5 choices to boot up from

    new kernel -smp
    new kernel
    old kernel -smp
    old kernel
    windows

the default is set on new kernel. i would like to do two things. first, change the default to new kernel-smp and to delete the two older choices.
