Open source of what?
Typically by visiting the CVS repository for that application or downloading pre-made source tarball's from the particular applications homepage.

Linux in general. The OS and, everything else how do you get to the "CVS repository" of a program? Lol I am a true No0b

almost every file can be opened by an editor.so specify the file of your distro that you want to see it's code and open it with a text editor (bash scripts etc...)

yeah, no offese, but if you dont understand source trees, i doubt that you can do much useful by screwing with your source code..... but if you search for CVS you will find it, its just the source tree of various programs.
