X11 files are normally kept in /usr/X11R6
I would make the assumption that if there are a number of directories/files there ... then XWindows is installed.

If it is running then you will see X running using ps.

    Execute this
    Code:
    xorg --version
    xfree86 --version
It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

    X server

I checked /usr/X11R6 exists but xorg or xfree86 didn't work. What should I do now ?

    /usr/X11R6/bin# ls -ltr
    total 68
    -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 10859 Sep 19 2005 mkxauth
    -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 41856 Sep 19 2005 xauth
    lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 15 May 9 2006 xterm -> ../../bin/xterm

Does not look like X Windows is installed ... as there should be more directories in there.

Which version of RedHat Fedora are you using?
    Execute this
    Code:
    cat /etc/*release
    cat /etc/*version*
    Post output here.

    Version

I don't have the access to box right now but I have the output from redhat-release file.

Red Hat Enterprise Linux ES release 4 (Nahant Update 2).

I'll also post *version* and *release* on monday.

To find the xorg version on my Fedora 8 installation, I have to execute the command like this:
    Code:
    /usr/bin/Xorg -version
There does not seem to be any xfree86 files or folders.
Please do not send Private Messages to me with requests for help. I will not reply.

xfree86 has been replace with Xorg a long time back. RHEL4 has Xorg only.

mohitanchlia : Execute this command suggested by waterhead and post output here.
