no sound

Hi,
i am using redhat enterprise 4 ws my pblm is my sound card was not detected i downlode alsa driver and installed it butstill not workingany sol please

what sound card do you have(which chipset?)?

asus mother board intel 915gv chipset

when you say it does not work can you be more specific? it throws errors out when you play a sound and if yes can you post the errors.
have you installed a media player with the necessary codecs(i suggest VLC)?

what alsa release did you install?

run the following commands and post the output

/sbin/lspci | grep -i audio
/sbin/lsmod | grep -i snd

no result for the second command
if run system-config-souncard
no sound card detected message will appear
but thesound card detected in windows

what ALSA release did you compile?

do you have SND_HDA_INTEL configured in the kernel?
you can check it as follows

 grep CONFIG_SND_HDA_INTEL /boot/config-<your kernel version here>

please download alsa driver ... ie that is the sound driver and install it thats it audio comes
