    Question Samba + FTP

    Hi,

    I am new to linux.
I am currently maintaining a network (Windows workgroup NOT DOMAIN) with 15 current users. The users share files over the network. I have found that the harddisk are full and the way the files are shared, they require a file server.

    I have just installed Fedora9.

All that I want to do is :

    1. Enable Samba share - Where my fedora 9 machine will act as a file server.
1a. What services do I enable to run Samba server ? - The windows Machine can Read/Write on the samba shared Fedora machine.
1b. What services do I enable to run Samba Server ? - The Fedora machine can read/Write on the shared folder on the windows machine - Please note been trying to do this for days, Unable to browse the network from the fedora machine

    2. Enable FTP dpwnloads and uploads/downloads by the users when they are at home / out of the country.
2a. Is there any I.P configuration ? - No, the fedora machine is not directly connected to the internet, connected to the internet via the workgroup network using a router.

How do i do this ?

    Bernard

    make sure samba is installed
    su -
    Code:
     system-config-samba
setup workgroup, samba users, and share folders

    Code:
     system-config-securitylevel
make sure samba is ticked in the trusted services.

    Code:
     vi /etc/sysconfig/network
the i key to insert the changes, i use HOSTNAME=file-server
    shift+zz saves the changes

    Code:
     service network restart
that should sort the file-server part.

I use vsftpd for ftp server comes stock with Centos
    probably stock with f9,
    Code:
     vi /etc/vsftpd/vsftpd.conf
plenty of things to change in that conf.

for a static ip for remote connections, search the forums, i use No-IP - Dynamic DNS, Static DNS for Your Dynamic IP for domain name

    Good luck man.
