    Need help with MBR and GRUB

    okay, so i as of right now i have four partitions on my 80GB hardrive, hd0. i have windows vista on a 46.9GB partition, Fedora FC8 on a 15.6GB partition, a 1.3GB swap partition for linux, and a 10.6GB partition for windows XP.

    i just recently installed XP and because of it, XP now is the only thing that boots. i was able to get Vista to boot just by putting in the repair disk and fixing the start up options. so now Vista is the only booting system. what i could do is use EasyBCD to allow both XP and vista to boot, but i want to use GRUB so Fedora can boot too.

    the problem is i cant get GRUB to boot.

    i've looked around various forums, and have tried many things.
    first i tried putting in the Fedora disk and using the recover system option to get to a command line. this is what i have done so far:
    # grub
    // which brings me to the grub command line)
    # find /boot/grub/stage1/
    // now i know where the grub bootloader is (i think)
    # setup (hd2)
    Error 12: Invalid device request
    // i also tried this
    # root (hd0,0)
    # setup (hd0)

    this did not work so i exited the grub menu and went back to the command line for the system

    i then tried this:
    #chroot /mtn/sysimage
    #/sbin/grub-install /dev/hda
    // it says that there is no such file or directory for '/dev/hda'
    // i also tried '/dev/hda2' and '/dev/hda0'

    this also did not work.

    i have yet to make a GRUB floppy or disk, mainly because i dont know how make one or how to use it, so that will be a last case senario.

    so i ask "what can i do?"
    i really dont want to have to reinstall Fedora.
    i need help here guys
    how can i get Grub to start again.

    Hello and Welcome!

    You were on the right track there! When you enter Rescue modem from the Fedora CD, execute
    Code:
    chroot /mnt/sysimage
    grub-install /dev/sdx
    exit
    exit
    Where /dev/sdx is your / partition.
