Wireless Adapter not Identified after 2days of digging the net
Hello everyone
I have a Vaio VGN-FW12G laptop. when I turn on my wireless,Fedora 9 only recognizes Bluetooth. I've searched and installed madwifi, but nothing happened. Then I searched and in Marvell site I found a driver for it but I couldn't even install it. there was an error while making it.
http://www.marvell.com/drivers/drive...o?driverId=203
Now I'm really exhausted of searching for it.
PLEASE HELP ME FIX IT.

I've searched again and found that I must install madwifi. I got the file from SourceForge and when I try to install it there are errors:

First, if you want help you have to have some patience. Most of us have day jobs and can only offer help in our spare time.
Also, by installing all kinds of different drivers, you may mess things up and make it nearly impossible to get it to work. NDISwrapper, for one, will interfere with any actual Linux driver you try to install and use. So, if you want to try the Linux driver, I would uninstall NDISwrapper first.
Now, there are actually two drivers that may be used with this card. The Madwifi is one of them. The other MAY be the ath9k driver, by the same people as the Madwifi driver.
If you are going to use Madwifi, I recommend installing the latest snapshot of the driver. It can be found here:
http://snapshots.madwifi.org/madwifi...current.tar.gz
Follow these instructions, and make sure that you have the listed dependencies installed first.
http://madwifi.org/wiki/UserDocs/FirstTimeHowTo
Another poster just installed this very same snapshot. Read through this thread for info on compiling it.
http://www.linuxforums.org/forum/red...tml#post635027
Here is a link to the ath9k driver, if you are interested.
ath9k - Linux Wireless
I'm not 100% positive that this (ath9k) is for your wireless. If there is any way that you can look at the wireless circuit board and the model numbers on the chip, that would be the best way to determine the best driver.Last edited by waterhead; 10-16-2008 at 11:10 PM.

I tried to use that SVN but couldn't install it.
So I tried this again:
# yum install madwifi
after downloading, everything seemed to be ok and installation was successful. But after installing, there is no change with my atheros wireless adapter. The strange thing is that when I try a madwifi command e.g "ath_pci", It says command not found.
- 10-17-2008 #9
That is because ath_pci is not a command. If that is what you thought, then you are not reading and following the instructions correctly. This would apply to installing and compiling from source too.
You are still too impatient. You are just going to make things worse. When you have a problem, you must ask for help before trying other things.
I do see that you have a very recent kernel. How did that kernel get installed? I think that you should be using an older kernel, then you wouldn't have so much trouble.
Also, as long as you have this thread open, do not start another one on the same subject, as it is against forum rules. I closed the other thread that you opened, about compiling the driver. Keep it all in one thread!
EDIT: Madwifi has a page covering common errors that occur when compiling, and their solutions:

I searched through madwifi.org pages and found a page about hardware requirements. my Atheros chipset was not there. I updated my pci.isd file and now the result of lspci is more specific:
What we see here?? my chipset is AR928X. madwifi doesn't support it. so I searched more and I found that I must install ath9k(through that madwifi.org). But I will wait till you suggest me doing that.Code:[root@localhost ~]# /sbin/lspci 00:00.0 Host bridge: Intel Corporation Mobile 4 Series Chipset Memory Controller Hub (rev 07) 00:01.0 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation Mobile 4 Series Chipset PCI Express Graphics Port (rev 07) 00:1a.0 USB Controller: Intel Corporation 82801I (ICH9 Family) USB UHCI Controller #4 (rev 03) 00:1a.1 USB Controller: Intel Corporation 82801I (ICH9 Family) USB UHCI Controller #5 (rev 03) 00:1a.7 USB Controller: Intel Corporation 82801I (ICH9 Family) USB2 EHCI Controller #2 (rev 03) 00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801I (ICH9 Family) HD Audio Controller (rev 03) 00:1c.0 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation 82801I (ICH9 Family) PCI Express Port 1 (rev 03) 00:1c.1 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation 82801I (ICH9 Family) PCI Express Port 2 (rev 03) 00:1c.3 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation 82801I (ICH9 Family) PCI Express Port 4 (rev 03) 00:1c.4 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation 82801I (ICH9 Family) PCI Express Port 5 (rev 03) 00:1d.0 USB Controller: Intel Corporation 82801I (ICH9 Family) USB UHCI Controller #1 (rev 03) 00:1d.1 USB Controller: Intel Corporation 82801I (ICH9 Family) USB UHCI Controller #2 (rev 03) 00:1d.2 USB Controller: Intel Corporation 82801I (ICH9 Family) USB UHCI Controller #3 (rev 03) 00:1d.3 USB Controller: Intel Corporation 82801I (ICH9 Family) USB UHCI Controller #6 (rev 03) 00:1d.7 USB Controller: Intel Corporation 82801I (ICH9 Family) USB2 EHCI Controller #1 (rev 03) 00:1e.0 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation 82801 Mobile PCI Bridge (rev 93) 00:1f.0 ISA bridge: Intel Corporation ICH9M LPC Interface Controller (rev 03) 00:1f.2 SATA controller: Intel Corporation ICH9M/M-E SATA AHCI Controller (rev 03) 00:1f.3 SMBus: Intel Corporation 82801I (ICH9 Family) SMBus Controller (rev 03) 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Mobility Radeon HD 3400 Series 01:00.1 Audio device: ATI Technologies Inc RV620 Audio device [Radeon HD 34xx Series] 06:00.0 Network controller: Atheros Communications Inc.
