Need help for uninstalling, Installin s/w in Fedora 9

    Hi
I'm newbiw for linux. I've installed 4 multi media player in fedora 9.
All are directly installed from internet by providing path. Even my VLC media player not working after successfull installation. Now I'd like to un installed all the multimedia player except one. I dont know how to uninstall, I mean in terminal how i can do that?

Basically, in linux where the installing software stored (Directory). Also I did search for that but, most of the answer like

Go to source dircctory and execute 'un install' like this. But i dont know where is the source directory of my installed software.

So anyone tell me how i install and un install software in my m/c? also let me know what is my default source directory? I would be great help for me.

    Thanks in advance.
