Partitions
Previously I was using XP professional SP2 on my laptop. I thought of trying linux (though I don't have any knowledge of it). So I arranged one fedora 10 and installed it. But after installing it my system shows a single partition of 152GB (160GB capacity HDD).
Even if I try to boot directly from XP CD my system starts fedora.
I actually want to have both Linux and windows on my system. Can anyone help me in getting the desired result.

Boot Fedora. Go to the menu.lst file (possibly called grub.conf) in the /boot/grub directory and see if you have an entry for windows/xp in the boot menu. If not, you will need to manually enter it. Must be done as root user. If you are not sure how to do this, post the contents of menu.lst and output of "fdisk -l" command also run as root.

sounds like when you installed fedora it overwrote your existing xp install and partition
the easiest way to install is to first install windows xp, create the windows xp partition whatever size you want (must be less than 160gb), then when you go to install fedora, create a partition using the rest of the free space

if you have 160 GB or 149 GB (after format) you need to create a parimary (for winxp) partition then create logical around parition. and or for installation linux remian 15 - 20 gb for linux w/o create any partition no wwhen you install redhat as4 or 5 you got one option it ask use free space on disk select it automatically detect the left space and create according to linux requirements.
