    automouting /home dir shows empty

hi, i am trying to setup NIS and NFS for users to log into their accounts on remote client machines. but i haven't even able to get the automounting part to work. i have installed the very basics on both client and server machines firewall and SELinux disabled. i am able to manually mount and /etc/fstab mount but unable to automount. it doesn't give me any error messages when i type (service autofs start). but (ls -la /home) shows only (. and ..) and (df) does not show anything other than the usual mounts points. what am i doing wrong?
