Sendmail - How do I avoid the "may be forged" messages

I have what I think is a straightforward Sendmail setup on a VPS. I have Outlook at home which is my main mail client. I also have SquirrelMail configured.

When I send an email from home via Outlook, the mail is properly relayed by Sendmail. However, the header shows it as coming from my home IP address ("may be forged"). Of course, that doesn't pass a reverse DNS lookup resulting in some servers blocking my mail.

When using Squirrelmail, the mail comes from the server and the reverse DNS does work properly.

Any ideas what I can do to get around this? Note that I'm a pretty novice Linux user so no answer is to simple.

    THANKS!!

I can't believe that there's not a simple answer to this. If not, let me ask the question differently.

What's the best email solution for someone hosting their own system? Should I use Sendmail as the back end and just use a web mail client (i.e. SquirrelMail, RoundCube) on the front end?

Or, doesn't Sendmail work in a client/server architecture where the mail server will do all of the work for the client as opposed to just being a relay agent?

I'm hosting my own system with the hope of not having to pay for Google Apps or something like that. I just can't believe there's not an easier way to deal with this.

    THANKS!!
