I don't run Red Hat so don't know for certain, but I think you must have a paid subscription to get Red Hat Enterprise Linux updates. You should be able to get CentOS updates without a subscription, though. CentOS is RHEL but without the Red Hat logos and paid support channel.
Fedora (also Red Hat related) would be another option.oz
