VMware on windows with fedora guest
Complete novice here and I know nothing and if I told you what my son does you could not believe me.
Old Windows guy that is determined to convert to Linux.
I need a lot of help.
Starting with how to log in as Root.
How to connect to a windows share.
How to connect to a usb Lacie big disk share.
That would be a first step.
Now if anyone here helps as I did eons ago with windows, and takes calls give me your phone number. I need a lot of help but just a little to begin with.
Thanks

Just read part of the tutorial and found how stupid I was being.
I have Vmware what ever the current trial version is and will purchase it in a few days if I can get some help.
I have installed Redhat Fedora10. I have spent all my free time for days trying to do a few simple task. Bought 2 " Biblical strength books" Both usless for now.
1 Question. How can I log in as root on boot?
I boot up get a screen that says the one user name and others. I choose others and type in root and root pass and it still says others and rejects the login.
Any help appreciated and I will move to my next question and am sure once I become root and solve the other issue, I can find most of my answers in books or by trial and error but I need help to get off the ground.
Thank you

Google > root login fedora 10 > First Link
The Fedora Docs will also help.Fedora 10 uses pam module called pam_succeed_if.so. This module is designed to succeed or fail authentication based on characteristics of the account belonging to the user being authenticated. One use is to select whether to load other modules based on this test. This module blocks root login using GUI.

Thank you and I can do it all with vi and none with getedit.
However cannot: Save and close the file. Logout from terminal and from GUI itself. Now you should be able login as root user using GDM GUI login manager.
Does not create any file that I can find but is all in the terminal window. Sorry that I am pestering but I have to learn by asking.
Thanks.

Now I can open the file by going to getit and then browsing to it and editing it out there but it refuses to allow me to save it due to no permission. I have loged in terminal as SU however. Maybe have to log in to terminal first or figure out how to get this to bring up that file from terminal?

Amazing what will happen when you spell getit correctly. Now I may actually have it. Had to go about it some different but about the same but think I got there.

Thank you kindly HROAdmin26 Problem solved.. Now I will continue to try to mount my windows particions and hope you are around if I cannot.
Surely these books should have the rest of the information after that as I will try to learn Linux on the VMware and then install in in real time.
Thanks again.

Help me reconize laCie big disk USB drive in VMware in Fedora 10
Hi Guys and thanks to you all for your helps so far. It is a delight to find you can get good help with good questions and I am trying to train myself to write good quesions now. Forum decorm has been a weakness in past but I am improving.
Ok I have a LaCie Big disk USB that VMware and Linux fedora 10 sees quite well in terms or allowing a connection to it. I think I have to choose to manually connect of not on this devise but it is never a problem to see the icon and its registeration of being connected.
Last evening some fine folks showed me how to download libs from yum and get this file type to open and several other tricks.
Unfortunatly after all this the devise cannot be seen in IPConfigurator nor in my computer or the desktop or any other place.
It does show as a network connection and yet, I also cannot seem to connect to it using network connector for shared files as I did with the other windows shares.
While I hope to not be up till 4:30 this morning again, I thought I would post it earlier today and ask for any help.
So I am asking for any help anyone can give and with thanks in advance.
If I am not making a good post here and anyone can teach me to format them better, I would appreciate this as well.
Complete novice here so please answer accordingly. An old pro and real pro at most windows operations sans networking past but nothing on Linux past a week or so ago.
Got to get the basics down and then I will move to finishing school on this and come back to teach.
Thank you all.
