FC10 Sound Blaster Live! 24-bit, no sound output but apparently input

    Hello,
I'm new to Linux. I installed the KDE version of Fedora Core 10 the other day and want to start using it, but right now I'm having issues making audio work.
I have a PCI Sound Blaster Live! 24-bit card. This card seems to be recognized by the system, and the ALSA ca0106 drivers appear to have been loaded. Unfortunately, I can't hear anything!

What's particularly puzzling me is that, using the PulseAudio Volume Control on the "Input Devices" tab, I can see that audio input seems to be working. I have my guitar amp plugged into the "Line In" jack on my sound card, and when I strum the strings on my guitar, the blue indicator bar fills up like normal, and eventually empties out as the guitar strings stop vibrating. So from this I'm concluding that the sound input works normally.

So... If it can detect my sound card and let me record stuff, why can't I hear?

    Thank you for your help!

Many Sound Blaster cards use the EMU10k1 driver. But there is a card out there that Sound Blaster made for Dell that does not work with ordinary SB drivers in Windows, not sure about Linux.
I have seen many threads in many forums with the same question regarding the SB Live card. The one made for Dell is called "SB Live digital".

In Mandriva 2009, for My SB Audigy 2 ZS card i have to enable (Audigy Analog/Digital Output Jack) in kmix managing channels or whatever, then I have to mute it before I get sound.

I upgraded from FC8 to FC10 on one of my machines a couple of weeks ago. I thought I'd got driver issues with my SB Audigy card, but it turned out to be a problem with the volume controls being set to a funny state. I found out because I could hear very faint sounds when I turned the speakers up to full.

I fixed mine by opening the big sound panel (double-clicking the speaker widget on the gnome panel, I think you do the same thing in KDE) and adjusting the volume of the output channels until I got the right one. The Audigy does have a lot of different output channels, though.
