Lenovo inbuilt Camera
Hi All,
I have a lenovo 7757 model which has an inbuilt camera. I have FC9 working on it. However I cannot use the camera. How do I enable it? If someone could point me to a driver if it needs to be installed.
Thanks
Raziya

The driver needed depends on the chips that it uses. You can find more info on it by running this command, if it is a PCI device.
Or if it is a USB device, use this command.Code:lspci -nn
Since you don't know which it is, post both.Code:lsusb
There is a good possibility that it uses the gspca driver. It may be already loading, so look for it with this command.
You can check the list of supported cameras, to see if yours in on it. It could still work even if it isn't on the list.Code:lsmod

There is also a neat How-To video from Linux Journal magazine.

The first two (lspci and lsusb) show the devices that are connected to the PCI and USB bus of your computer. The third (lsmod) shows the driver modules that are loaded on your system. In Linux, the drivers are modules of the operating system's kernel. Hence the name kernel module.
Unfortunately, I don't see any hardware that looks like a video capture device (aka: camera). And no modules are then loading either. I tried to look up your model at the Lenovo web site, but the model info you provided is incomplete.
The best thing you can do, is to first identify the manufacturer of the web camera. This way we may be able to track down a driver for it. To be honest, since it doesn't seem to appear in the hardware lists, I don't think that it will work.
If you are using the stock kernel that came with Fedora 9, you should upgrade to the latest. It may help with recognizing your web cam. You may want to even consider a fresh install using the latest version, Fedora 10.Paul

So would'nt there be any quick work around for this? I dont see any responses...

If your system doesn't "see" the device, it follows that it then can't access the device to use it. I still say that you may need the latest Linux kernel and distribution, but that may not be enough. You could try using a current LiveCD, and see if it recognizes the device in lsusb or lspci.
