It is possible that you only need firmware to get this to work. But RedHat has very poor wireless support, so it may not even have the driver.

Before I even try to help, I want to have all the info I need, so that I can make an informed decision. Please read the link below, and post the info that it explains how to find.

    Wireless Setup - Start Here

Because of the poor wireless support in Red Hat, if you need wireless, I would recommend using Fedora 10. It is the developmental version of Red Hat, and has much better wireless support.

    hi
    thanks for your reply
i did what you said exactly......
i am sending text file ...
    please take a look...

and onemore thing i want to tell to you is recently i have installed another kernel (version is linux-2.6.24) bacause in some forums i read that if we want to work with wireless you nedd to install latest kernel...so i did it...eventhough it is not working...

before doing this ..... I have gone through intel-site and there i found how to install wireless drivers into linux. As per intel-site i need to download the iwlwifi-4965-ucode-228.57.2.23.tgz and iwlwifi-1.2.24.tgz and i followed the steps ...while when i am typing the command (#make) it is diaplaying many errors like incompitable tyes....like this many errors...

so i stopped that one and started searching in forums.....
please help me out of this
and onemore thing is that when i was getting below errors...
    [root@localhost ~]# iwconfig
    lo no wireless extensions.

    eth1 no wireless extensions.

    sit0 no wireless extensions.

    waiting for ur reply

I need the output of all the commands that the post shows. Also, the one that you did post (lspci) doesn't have much info in it. Try it again without the -nn option.

    lspci
    lsusb
    lsmod
    uname -r
    dmesg
    dmesg | grep firmware

You can post the outputs in between "code" tags. It is at the top of the window, click on the # sign to enable/disable it. It is better than attaching text files.

This looks to be the 2.6.18 kernel that you are booting into. You will have to manually install the diver, but I know you tried that.

Boot into the 2.6.24 kernel, as it may already contain the driver. Then repost the info again.

I don't see any evidence of a driver loading on this kernel either. How did you install this kernel? Did you compile it from source? If so, you should have edited the configuration to compile the wireless drivers as modules.

You could re-compile the kernel, but there is no reason to do this. With the 2.6.24 kernel, you can install the compat-wireless driver package (see link below). This will contain the driver for your wireless. I am not sure if is called iwl3945, iwl4965 or iwlagn. One of those drivers will load when the wireless is detected.

    Download - Linux Wireless

EDIT: You will still need the correct firmware for the wireless to work. There are several versions, so the correct one will be needed. When the system looks for it, it will leave a message that can be viewed in the dmesg output.

Wireless is not working in rhel5+vgn-cr343n

i have downloaded the kernel from The Linux Kernel Archives after that i have extracted...then i followed the instructions (INSTALL -fille)

    kernel-file-name :linux-2.6.24.tar.gz

That's fine. I only mentioned about doing another kernel compile, because it is an option. You may want to do it just for practice, but it isn't really needed for this.

If you do want to do another kernel compile, get the latest stable version. As of this writing, it is the 2.6.29 version. You then would want to configure the kernel to make the wireless driver(s) as modules. Do this in the "config" mode.

Otherwise, just install the compat-wireless driver package on the existing 2.6.24 kernel. It won't work with the 2.6.18 kernel.
