determine max allowable file length
I'm running a pretty standard unix server hosted with **** (not sure if I can mention but I'm very happy with their service).
my question is, what is the maximum-file-length-that-I-can-name-a-file-you-get-the-idea-etc.php? Is there some type of linux command that can tell me that? or is there just a general rule - I'm writing an ap and want to allow files to have long names but want to limit them to the system max.
thanks!

Last I heard it was set to a 256 character max.
