Wired Internet Connection Problems
Hi all,
I have recently installed Fedora 10 on a new 320 GB hard drive. Computer is a Dell INSPIRON E1505. F10 is the only OS i have on the machine. I am unable to connect to the internet with an ethernet cable. I have another computer wired to the modem and it is working fine. I have been reading through alot of threads and have not had much luck with other solutions. Any information will be extremely helpful.

Hello and Welcome!

Is this a static IP address? Or DHCP? Also, what is the output ofCode:cat /etc/resolv.conf

Can you run Wireshark on your Linux box and check to see if it is requesting an address and whether anything is responding to it or not?

From your output of ifconfig, I see an IP address from your router. Check the set-up of your router to insure that it's set to give DHCP addresses.

Yes my router is set up to allocate from DHCP pool
Range 192.168.1.64 - 192.168.1.253
- 03-23-2009 #8
You've got an IP that's outside the range of that pool. I would double check your network settings to make sure that it's set to DHCP.

As jayd512 mentioned you have an address that is outside of the range of the DHCP server which would indicate that you are not getting assigned an address from the DHCP server. I suspect that you should be able to communicate with othe rdevices on your local subnet such as the router but not the internet because your network is not properly configured. You need to have your DNS server addresses defined as well as your gateway address. Without these being properly set you will not be able to communicate outside of your subnet.

Alright,
I was reading around and saw that it was possible that the network manager might have some bugs. So I installed wicd network manager and am now using that. I set it DHCP and now I have no ip address
