CentOS vs Enterprise Fed/Red Hat PBX
Ok, so I know that PBXs are compatible with CentOS.......Why is CentOS preferred over Enterprise Fedora/Red hat?
I am fairly new to Linux, but I understand most of asterisk and just need to get use to most of the commands for Linux. Just a brief overview would be nice.
On all the posts i've seen so far you guys have seemed to be extremely proficient with your knowledge....it's like you have Linux Gods just waiting to reply to newbs like me.....If you have any pointers for Asterisk/CentOS or Fedora/Red hat in general, i'm open eyes(and ear) for any information you are willing to share!
Thanks alot!
Goodtwin!
p.s.
I am a twin....and yes....he is pure EVIL! Good thing he sucks with computers...

CentOS is based on the source of RedHat Enterprise, recompiled without the trademarks etc. It effectively gives you Enterprise Linux without the Enterprise support. Stable and good for environments that can't handle too much downtime/less tested applications, where you don't need support. Downside is that you won't have (easy) access to the whole plethora of programs that you can get with other cutting edge distro's, and that help is through forums etc only.
It depends on your level of experience with Linux.

It's one of the most basic aspects of enterprise IT. Any product, no matter how good it is, is not acceptable if there is no form of enterprise level support provided for free or at a cost. Either one but usually, it's at a cost.
In enterprise IT, support is valued over all else. That's why some companies are very adamant about phasing out hardware once it's no longer under warranty.
Same goes for the OS."A graphical user interface is just a mask. What lies beneath is what matters."
