Unhappy Trying to connect my printer

Hey all, i'm relatively new to the linux scene and am testing the viability of switching to linux from windows. However i've encountered my first stumbling block.

I've been trying to get my printer to work under linux. Its a canon mp520 and i installed the rpm drivers from: http://support-au.canon.com.au/EN/se...&menu=Download

I installed the "IJ Printer Driver Ver. 2.80 for Linux(rpm Common package)" and the " ScanGear MP Ver. 1.10 for Linux(rpm Common package)" for the scanner but its made no difference. I also checked it was installed using yumex. What I didn't know was that apparently you need to restart before it'll load the new driver. Because after rebooting Abiword was suddenly showing my printer!

So of course I selected it and hit print thinking all was well. Not quite. Even it lists "mp520-series" nothing happened. It didn't print.

Also, I went through "printer configuration" and tried to print a test page and i got the following error message: "CUPS server error - There was an error during the cups operation: 'client-error-document-format-not-supported".

I've posted this problem in the fedora forums but i've had no luck there. I'm hoping someone here can help >.<
