RedHat support SATA but you have to check if your Chipset is supported by RedHat or not.

Is there any reasong for installing RH9 only? Its an obsolete distro and you wont get any security and software updates for it.
I would suggest you to try latest version of any other distro. Fedora and CentOS are RedHat based only. Both are free to download/install.
It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

you will need to buy a license for it in order to install updates, yes

CentOS is built off the sources from RHEL and is free, so if you don't want to pay for support, then you should just use that instead.

I agree with coopstah13. You should install CentOS instead of RHEL. CentOS is a clone of RHEL only and its free to download/install.
