Local file installer is running when the session is not active

Whenever I try to install something (in this case Adobe flash player, but in other cases as well) I get the following error message:

Local file installer is running when the session is not active
These applications should be run only when on active console.
This normally indicates a bug with your remote desktop implementation.

I use vnc tunneled through ssh to access the desktop.
any thoughts anyone? thanks and have a great day

Unlike Windows, when you run VNC on a Linux system, you get a dedicated X server and desktop for the remote connection. You are not viewing/running the main desktop (console) of the system, which is why the installer is barfing. You will need to download the .rpm or other installation files and install them with either rpm or yum from a terminal window (command line). Even in that case, I'm not positive that it will not complain. Some software has to be installed from the main console in order to avoid system stability problems - after all if you have to reboot you might not be able to get back in from a remote system.
Sometimes, real fast is almost as good as real time.
