    Smile Audio,Video on Runlevel 3

    Hi,

    I am new to linux. Can I open music files, or video files on run level 3 (command line)? I tried to open audio files and firefox web browser, but i got error showing cant connect to X server and some times No display specified. What is this problem ? can some one please help me ?
    I use Fedora 10 . How can i open audio/video files on Runlevel 3 ?

    Level 3 is single user, non-graphic mode. You need level 5 for firefox and x-server.

    Sure you can, if you have the right software installed. Mplayer is what I suggest.
    mplayer /path_to_song.mp3
    I'm not too sure about video, seems to me that you need X running to display videos.

    To run any GUI applications, including Firefox or video players (VLC, mplayer, etc) you need to have the X-Windows server running. You can do this at run-level 3, but you have to start the X server manually, assuming it is installed on the system. Try manually running the command "startx". If you get some errors, you can check out the xorg log files if the on-screen errors don't help you determine what the problem may be.

    One question, have you ever run an X desktop on this system (KDE, Gnome, xfce, twm, etc)?
    Sometimes, real fast is almost as good as real time.

    Now i understood..When i used startx command it took me to GUI. Anyway..thank you very much

    @Rubberman: I use both Gnome and KDE.
