Welcome to the forums!
SATA support under RHEL 4 was not the best and lots of folks have had problems getting it installed and running properly. I'd recommend using a later version of RHEL, or make the move to the free version that comes with CentOS (RHEL clone without RH logos and support).oz

Prior to RHEL/CentOS 5.0, sata support was difficult. However, your system BIOS should be configurable so that it will present the internal SATA drives as IDE drives to the operating system - necessary for more than just Linux. Windows XP does't like them much either. Look in the BIOS disc settings for something like "Legacy Drive Support". The only problem with this is that it pretty much limits you to 4 devices (including your CD/DVD drives), so if you plan on having a couple of CD/DVD drives as well as a bunch of SATA drives, you will only see some of them. I had this problem when trying to run Seagate software to get drive ID information and run advanced diagnostics. I had to switch to legacy mode and I could only find a couple of the drives at a time. A pain, since I have 5 internal sata drives and 2 CD/DVD burners...
Sometimes, real fast is almost as good as real time.
Just remember, Semper Gumbi - always be flexible!
