unable to detect my installation media
I am a windows user & finally decided to shift to linux
the problem is like this
when ever I try to install linux on my windows xp machiene it flashes the following message
choose the installtion media (or some thing like that)
when I choose the local cd rom option it flashes unable to detect the installation media and give options to choose the driver & media
I thought the problem may be of due to xp installed on my machiene
so i deleted the prior partions and created new ones using xp installation disk
but it won't worked

If I understand your story well you are trying to install Linux while you are running WinXP. That won't work.
You have to power down your machine and reboot with the CD in the drive. When booting you have to go into the BIOS and tell it to boot from CD-Rom first.
You then will get into the Linux installer where you have a choice to tell it if you want to keep your WinXP or not. For absolute beginners it might be a good choice to keep XP for a while. Choose your prefered language and answer a few more simple questions and Linux will install itself and tell you how to proceed.
Good luck and have a lot of fun with your new OS. Whenever you have more questions, do come back on the forum. Don't forget, there are no silly questions, only silly answers.Charles
