[SOLVED] Keyboard randomly freezes during use

First post on the forum. Hello all!

I have been fighting with this for a while now. After doing a fresh install of Fedora 9 64-bit, randomly during use, my keyboard will completely stop responding. If a key was pressed during the moment it froze, it acts as if I am holding the key down, and if nothing was pressed, it appears to have just stopped responding entirely. It's a USB keyboard that I know works fine because my secondary XP install isn't having any problems. Sometimes I can go days without it acting up, sometimes only a few minutes after reboot (which appears to be the only solution). Nothing else acts up at all, just the keyboard. I've googled this for a while and no one seems to be having the exact problem I am having. I've tried switching the keyboard profile I use, and it doesn't seem to make a difference. Any ideas?

    Hi there,

Are there any messages in /var/log/messages?

Have you updated to the latest kernel? Not sure if this will help, but probably worth a try.

May also be worth trying a different USB port on the machine, could be the port locking up. Have you got another keyboard to try in the same port just to test this option out?

Try to toggle Legacy USB Support in BIOS.
It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

Legacy USB Support is enabled and /var/log/messages reports nothing. I was going through a few other log files that may report something helpful and I don't seem to be able to find anything.

So, have you tried WITHOUT legacy USB support enabled? Personally, I prefer PS/2 keyboards - I've generally found them to be more reliable since they have a dedicated port.

I suggested you to toggle Legacy USB Settings. Have you tried to disable it?

Just wrapping up this thread. The problem turned out to be a flaky USB extension cable. Once I replaced it, the problem went away.
