Welcome to the forums!
If you aren't comfortable with partitioning, I suggest using the Parted Magic LiveCD. It's a small download and quick burn to disk, and is very easy to use. You can find good instructions for using it on their website and on the disk itself.
Basically what you need to do is defragment your drive(s) to be on the safe side, then boot with the Parted Magic LiveCD to use some of your spare space for creating Linux partitions. I usually maintain a very simple partitioning scheme something like the following:
The installer on most distributions will give you the option to select dual-boot during the installation process.Code:/ about 10 to 12 GB, ext3 swap about 1GB, swap /home about 10 to 12 GB, ext3

I agree with ozar the PartedMagic CD is a good way to setup partitions. The installation guide for REHL 5.1 here should provide most of the information you need.
You could also consider either Fedora or CentOS as a free alternative.

There are a lot of Tutorials available over net but best way is to install Linux first and go through manuals.
Check RedHat Manual and Basic commands. It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.
