drivers n dependencies 4 dell studio 1555
h/w config :
GPU-ati4570 512 mb
WiFi-intel5100 half mini card.
The ethernet card manufacturer is Broadcom, dunno the exact number but its same in all the new laptops as the chipset is Intel's GM45.
I tried the drivers supplied by Dell but they all gave dependency errors. Since Internet is not working I can't resolve any.
The distro is RHEL 5.
Please provide me some solution for this.

Is this the RHEL that Dell pre-installs on the system, or is it one that you installed? The system should support the wired ethernet controller out-of-the-box, especially if the RHEL is installed by Dell. In that case, do contact Dell tech support as a non-functioning system is their responsibility. If you installed it, then as I said RHEL 5 should not have any problem with a Broadcom chipset. The wireless is another issue, and there are web sites that can help you install the appropriate drivers for that, though that presumes you can get to the internet with your wired connection.

You installed it. Ok. Which distribution+version of RHEL, and was it the eval version from Red Hat's web site? I know you said RHEL 5, but is that 5.0, 5.1... or 5.3?

Even with the most current version of RHEL, you will most likely have driver problems. This is because you are using very new hardware, and RHEL is not known for being very up-to-date.
You should be using the very latest version of Fedora, and even then not everything may work properly. Also, the Fedora kernel has things enabled (like wireless) that are not enabled in the RHEL kernels.Paul

For full kernel/version info: uname -a
FWIW, you probably cannot use the drivers from Dell, as they are for whichever version(s) of Linux they support, and I doubt they do at all on that system. You need to get the drivers from the device vendor/manufacturer for RHEL 5, or get source and build them yourself. For the ATI graphics card, go to the AMD/ATI web site. For the Intel WiFi card, go to the Intel web site, or one of the Linux wireless support sites that have information how to configure and install that card. The Broadcom ethernet card should have support built-in with RHEL 5, but not necessarily, depending upon the chip set.
So, after a basic install, setting the video driver to "vesa", does the X server work? What about the wired ethernet? We'll try to get those working first, and then once you get the wired ethernet running, we'll work on the native graphics driver, and last the wireless.Sometimes, real fast is almost as good as real time.
