    Which distro are you running?
Have you tried to boot-up with the installation DVD to re-install GRUB? If so, does it throw any errors?

Generally, when you see GRUB > come up during boot, with nothing after that, it means that something has happened to either remove or corrupt your GRUB. Using the installation DVD (or even one from Fedora, if you have one), you can re-install GRUB to a functional state.
Boot up with the disk, go to rescue mode. Depending on your disk layout you'll be able to use something like
    Code:
    # grub-install /dev/hda
Can you boot with any type of LiveCD and post output of
    Code:
    fdisk -l
    Small L there, not a 1.
