Old partitions
Last summer I installed FC9. This was my first linux distro. I used it along side windows xp. Well one day xp crashed and I had to recover xp wiping out the drive and starting fresh. I expected linux would be going along with everything else but after using Gparted the other day I still had a swap partition and 40 gb of space with ext 2. I'm trying to be as clear as I can because I don't know or remember much about the process. My question is how can I be sure this is fedora and is it possible I can boot it up?

Welcome to the forums!
You'd need to put GRUB back onto the Master Boot Record in order to boot Linux. You can do that easily with the SuperGRUB LiveCD:
Super Grub Disk Homepageoz
