    alsamixer blues

I use 2 sets of sterio speakers in 4 channel mode with realtek ac97 sound chip onboard Gigabyte GA-8knxp mobo. It works fine with alsa drivers alright. but there are just a couple of problems.

    1) It doesn't save the sund config. I have to adjust and unmute it evrytime I restart. I use a small script to do this with a mixer tool. but would like to know how to save the settings.

    2) The rear speakers doesn't work by default. I have to run alsa mixer, then go to option IEC958 and hit up arrow to make it work.Note that this doesn't change anything visibly. The IEC958 option always shows PCM b4 and after hitting up. and also down key doesn't do the job, only up.

I tried to set IEC958 to PCM(even if it is already that) using amixer, but that wouldn't work.

try this... if u have amixer in a root shell
    Code:
    amixer set Surround 100 unmute

Yeah I already tried that one. how ever it only sets the surround volume but don't turn it ON. I have to fireup alsamixer and goto IEC958 and hit + or up.
