Nouveau Driver problem for Fedora 11 Preview

The only way that Fedora 11 Preview would install on my HDD was to use the installation with basic video driver setting. I have both Gnome 2.26 and KDE 4.2.2 installed.

How do I get the Nouveau driver to function so I can have 1620x1080 res. I don't know how. Help me please.

The basic video driver setting (vesa) won't handle higher resolutions such as you specify. You will need to build the driver from source, most likely. At least the kernel module for it.

Thanks Rubberman for that informative reply,

Say the real problem is that my LCD monitor goes blank at the Anaconda welcome slide. I have a Geforce 8800 GTX. This didn't happen to me with the Fedora 10 RTM and I could use the normal/Nouveau option . You can tell me the syntax for installation booting options to prevent Fedora 11 Preview from making my screen go blank once the Anaconda welcome slide loads.

Stupid question, but have you tried installing the nVidia drivers downloaded directly from nVidia?

Yeah I did, the syntax (in Gnome terminal under SU) said the X-terminal was running and wouldn't install, because it was running. I did ALT-CTRL F1 and tried to close it, but I didn't get at the X-Terminal screen. Again the screen went blank after I did ALT-CTRL F1. Maybe it has a connection?

You will need to put it into runlevel 3 - edit /etc/inittab and change the default run level there to 3 (instead of 5) and reboot. Install the driver, then set the runlevel back to 5 and reboot.

Why would Fedora 10 work and Fedora 11 not work?

Sorry, but I wouldn't know without looking at the system(s) in question. I use CentOS (workstation/server) and Ubuntu (laptop), so I haven't had a chance to try Fedora 11, which I believe is still in beta, no? Perhaps that's one of the wrinkles still to be ironed out. If it is in beta, then you should be reporting this to the Fedora bug page I would think.
