Firefox browses throguh all folders ....How can i disable it ?
Hi ,
I have fedora 7 on my system with firefox installed as the default web browser .
Now whenever , in the firefox if i enter /etc , /tmp , /bin ..the entire contents are displayed .
I want to disable this option ? Firefox should only be allowed to access the web not the resident folders on the system ?
How can I do it ? Need help in this matter ...

I've never worried to much about it, myself. Even though the files are visible, proper file permissions are still observed. If you login as john, you'll be unable to access files under jane's account. Equally, you won't be able to view the contents of any system files, either. grub.conf for example. I look at it as kind of a browser front-end to things like ls and cd.
*EDIT*
Come to think of it, Konquerer does the same thing. I don't like comparing Linux to Windows, but it's actually rather similar to the function of Windows Explorer.Last edited by jayd512; 05-09-2009 at 10:45 AM. Reason: after-thought

Indeed. Konqueror is a web browser, and a file system browser. You can use Firefox in much the same way, and this is a standard behavior of browsers since the file:// URI is just as valid as http:// or ftp:// etc. If you start IE in Windows, you should get the same behavior. It may be possible to disable the file:// URI, but I don't see anything in Preferences to allow that.
