Check all of your levels are up, particularly PCM. If you open your sound mixer by double-clicking on the volume icon (or right clicking and selecting mixer) you should be able to turn PCM and if applicable Front up to balance you volume.

Hello and Welcome.
Try looking in the system menu for an app with a name like Mixer, Gnome mixer, Kmix,...try one of those and see how it goes.I do not respond to private messages asking for Linux help, Please keep it on the forums only.

Hello and Welcome!
The suggestions from BigTom and Mike should fix you up. But if not, run alsamixer as root and make sure the levels are maxed there, as well.Jay

Hiya BTR and Jay!
I like using alsamixer myself but it seems like it isn't installed on some distros, that's why I try getting it to work through the Menu first. Sheesh, I need to dust off my DVD burner and touch up on my Ubuntu skills. I'm getting virtually fat and lazy with Gentoo

Try this code, I'm not sure it will work but it's worth a shot.
Needs to be run as root.
Code:system-config-soundcard
