Putty question
Hi,
I'm very new to Linux and trying to install Putty under Windows. My question is: right now, I only want to create a Linux environment on my machine and begin to practice some Linux commands by managing the files on my local. How can I use Putty to do this?
During the Putty configuration process, I have to fill "host name or IP address", etc. to config. If I don't need to SSH to the remote server, is it possible to configure PUTTY? If yes, how can I do that?
Thanks!

You can configure PuTTY's other options ... but you cannot do much if you do not have a remote SSH server to connect to.
PuTTY is a terminal client to connect to a remote host though a Telnet, SSH, Raw TCP, or Serial connection.

Just so we're all clear, you do know that PuTTY is only an SSH/Telnet/Serial client right? Not an actual operating system of "environment". You might want to check out Cygwin if you want to install a POSIX-like environment on a windows machine. Another alternative is to use VMWare, or similar VM product, and run the OS in a virtual machine.
