At the login prompt, after X fails to start, login as root and run "startx" directly. Then, post the error messages here.

Rubberman, Omkar is talking about X failure 'during installation'. Can we start X with startx command during installation process too?

Well, at least trying to run startx will give some indication as to how far the installation of xorg got. If it's "command not found", then it's back to square one. If it tries to run and we get some errors, it will also help diagnose the problem.

    graphical display fedora10 installation

    Hello Rubberman,

    thanks for the reply
i did run startx and it said command not found then i used the following commnand

    sh -x /usr/bin/startx

it gave a lot of errors...

i think the problem lies with the BIOS settings since Windows vista architecture is different. Can you please let me know if any cahnges on BIOS side will help.
so that i can reinstall Fedora10

How does the liveCD work? Have you tried that, or did you just go to "install"?

Omkar, may be the problem is with the ATI cards. Fedora is more inclined towards 'free' side than the 'open' side of hacker culture.

As Rubberman asked, let us know if livecd works. If you are not very particular about using fedora (may be preparing for RHCE ?), you may consider ubuntu or mandriva which is more beginner friendly. But thats just my personal opinion.

I personally like Ubuntu. I'm running 9.04 on my laptop and it has run all my hardware out-of-the-box, including the WiFi, Bluetooth, and my Sprint wireless broadband USB modem. I didn't even have to do any configuring of the broadband modem - I just plugged it in, it was recognized and configured automatically, and worked! It was more trouble to install in Windows and OSX, and I was expecting to have to futz with all the device and PPP configuration cruft. No such "luck"!
