I run CentOS/RHEL 5.3 and telnet has no version #. That code is SO old, that it probably hasn't changed in 10 or 15 years. Why do you want to know?

thanks for your answer. I needed the version as I need to change the telnet parameter for timeout at telnet client.

Why do you need the version to do that? I don't think telnet has a user timeout function itself, but relies on system/shell functions to auto-logout after some period of inactivity. Is that what you are trying to accomplish?
