    Hi and Welcome !

When machine boots up, what does appear on screen?
when i put "startx" after logging in it just tells me that is a "command not found".
How did you install CentOS 5.3? Did you choose default settings or selected packages yourself?
It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

Hi thanks! when the machine boots up i see the blue login screen, then when i go to console login it's all black. I selected some packages for the server, but i don't know if you refer to those. I read that you have to edit the /etc/inittab but i can't figure out how because it doesn't appear me the options of emacs, vim, edit or any text editor. And also the command "startx" doesn't work. THANKS
