Hi and Welcome !
When machine boots up, what does appear on screen?
How did you install CentOS 5.3? Did you choose default settings or selected packages yourself?when i put "startx" after logging in it just tells me that is a "command not found".It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

Hi thanks! when the machine boots up i see the blue login screen, then when i go to console login it's all black. I selected some packages for the server, but i don't know if you refer to those. I read that you have to edit the /etc/inittab but i can't figure out how because it doesn't appear me the options of emacs, vim, edit or any text editor. And also the command "startx" doesn't work. THANKS
