HP LaserJet Printer Recognition Issue
I am running the following version of fedora: vmlinuz-2.6.29.4-167.fc11.i586. My system is a 3GHz Core 2 Duo on a Gigabyte P35 board and NVIDIA 8800GT. I have successfully installed the drivers for my HP LaserJet 6L as dictated here (*edit*: apparently, for some insanely stupid reason, I cannot link to HP's Linux page). I did a "sh hplip-3.9.6b.run", however, I am not prompted about whether I would like to enable LPT (parallel port) support, even though the HP link (which I can't post) says I should be prompted about whether I want LPT support. So I am taken to the final stages of HP's GUI printer installation, but then I am unable to select the LPT option because it's greyed out. So it looks like I've installed most of the files I need, just can't get LPT to be recognized.
Now, I did an "lsmod" as root user, and saw that my paraport and paraport_pc (i.e. parallel port) were present, and it's without question enabled in the BIOS (plus my secondary slave drive has an XP Pro installation that detects my parallel printer perfectly). Here is my lsmod output for all those interested in taking a look at it in detail:
