Hi,
I am trying to install sybase on RHEL5
Even after doing sudo to root, it's giving error:
$ sudo -u root ./setup
Password:
sudo: unable to execute ./setup: Success
...

unable to run setup on RHEL5
Hi,
I am trying to install sybase on RHEL5
Even after doing sudo to root, it's giving error:

What am I missing here?

Try switching to root, cd to the setup directory, and then run ./setup.
When you execute "su -", it will ask for the root password. Enter that and you should get the root user prompt.Code:su - cd sybase_setup_dir ./setup
Sometimes, real fast is almost as good as real time.

Thanks.
I followed up with our unix admin on this, as turn out to be I was not able to run most of the executables. He had a quick look and he changed some settings.
The response from the Unix admin was: "Removed the extra right for a non-root user to mount the partition. This extra right brings some unintented restrictions with it."
Apologies, but I am new to linux world so it did not made much sense to me, but I am happy that the error got resolved.
