    How to use YUM

I'm currently using Fedora 10 and when I try to install an application using YUM it says
"Exiting lock /var/run/yum.pid: another copy is running as pid 3101
Another app is currently holding the yum lock; waiting for it to exit ...
Another app is currently holding the yum lock; waiting for it to exit ...
Another app is currently holding the yum lock; waiting for it to exit ... " I get that message over and over and the yum lock doesn't get released. Can someone help me. I'm logged in as the root and I'm also using the correct directory where the app is but, the yum lock doesn't get released.
    Help me please.
    Thank you,
    George

You can go to "System>Preferences>personal>Sessions" and scroll down to "PackageKit Update Applet" an uncheck the box. Log out and back in and PackageKit should not interfere with running yum from the terminal. You can also install "yumex" if you haven't already as it makes a nice visual to see what is available or already installed or needing update.

Sounds like you killed YUM while it was running. Check /var/run for yum.pid and remove it.
